Lexapro Withdrawal: Seizures and Chronic Migraines

Age: 26–35  ·  Duration of use: 5+ years  ·  Current status: No, have stopped
Symptoms: Brain zaps, Sexual dysfunction, Tinnitus, Seizures, Migraines

I was taking 40mg of Lexapro for over 15 years with Wellbutrin XL for 5 years. I decided to get off them and my psychiatrist at the time had me taper off 40mg in 3 weeks. I developed tinnitus, had brain zaps so bad I went to the hospital, and then had 2 thunderclap headaches resulting in chronic migraines (had them daily for a year).

I was diagnosed with epilepsy with both grand mal seizures and focal seizures. Life has been so rough and my psychiatrist took full responsibility and said "I think that caused your seizure." I stopped seeing her immediately and haven't ever felt right since.

I'm on a lot of meds to help manage my symptoms, and my neurologist said it's going to be a lifelong thing. He isn't sure about the correlation with the withdrawal but after reading others' stories, I'm certain that's what did it.
