A Destroyed Life

Age: 18–25  ·  Duration of use: 2–5 years  ·  Current status: No, currently tapering
Symptoms: Emotional blunting, cognitive impairment, insomnia, depersonalization/derealization, suicidal ideation, tinnitus

I took Lexapro and Seroquel for two years to treat mild insomnia and anxiety. I was not informed about the severe side effects these drugs could cause, which I ended up developing after starting them. These included intensified insomnia, cognitive slowing, memory loss, sexual dysfunction, and irritability.

After a while, I began taking Lithium and Depakote, which further worsened the damage caused by the previous combination of medications.

Ever since I started taking psychiatric drugs at the age of 16, my life has drastically deteriorated over time. I am unable to study, my personal relationships have been ruined, my talents wasted, and my future obscured.

Even though I was in significant distress when I sought out my first psychiatrist, I am certain that if I had received a different kind of care—one not based on psychiatric medications—I would be in a much better position today. Therefore, I urge specialists to take the necessary measures to protect the public from these narcotics.
