Olanzapine Injection Story

Age: 26–35  ·  Duration of use: 1–6 months  ·  Current status: No longer taking
Symptoms: Brain zaps, emotional blunting, cognitive impairment, insomnia, suicidal ideation, GI disturbances

I was injected with olanzapine for 3 months. I felt intense burning sensation in my limbs and spine, causing extreme anger reactions and outbursts. I said this is against human rights but nobody listened and I continued to not sleep for weeks in pain.

I have bipolar type 1 and am now on aripiprazole low dosage and experience no depression. I am starting to doubt my illness was even real due to the fact my meds now do not protect from lows. So I must be unipolar now or something else.

My point is I suffered so greatly I wanted to take my life and end the pain. Thanks to my faith in God that was the only thing carrying me through, and a spiritual experience that helped me to heal.

— Jonathan of New Zealand, 31 years old, in the mental health system since 14
